Who is Calvin Presbyterian Church?

We are a Bible-centered church. We are a decidedly confessional church. We are a Presbyterian church. We are an historical church. We are a pilgrim church. We are a covenantal church. We are an evangelical church. We are a Reformed church.

As a child, Tom Sharp attended Willow Avenue United Presbyterian Church in Joliet, Illinois.  Transferring to Joliet’s First Presbyterian Church in 1972, he was ordained as a Deacon in 1975.  He was installed as a Deacon in 1978 at Christ United Presbyterian Church after moving to Phoenix, Arizona.  In 1979, he married Debbie, who joined the husband-wife teams on board of Deacons.  Tom was ordained as a Ruling Elder in 1982 and attended the 1984 General Assembly in Phoenix when the UPC and PCUS joined to form the PCUSA.

Following a move to Seattle, he served as a deacon at Overlake Presbyterian Church.  He left the PCUSA denomination in 1987 and joined Bellewood Presbyterian Church (PCA) and was installed as a Ruling Elder.  During the first year, the church was without a Pastor, keeping the elders very busy until a minister was called in late 1988.  Another move for Debbie’s health brought them back to Phoenix, where they joined Calvin PCA, and Tom was installed as a Ruling Elder in January of 1990 and became the “temporary” treasurer in 1991.

In 1994, Calvin Presbyterian Church moved to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church denomination, so Tom has served as an elder in four Presbyterian denominations (UPC, PCUSA, PCA, and OPC) over a 26-year period.  Tom has also served on the augmented-session of Prescott Presbyterian Church since about 2004  Tom is an electrical engineer graduate from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, working as an consulting engineer, designing large radio systems for public safety (police, fire, etc.) agencies, and is a registered Professional Engineer in 26 states.  Tom and Debbie have twin 28-year-old sons Chris (Lancaster, PA) and Chuck (Phoenix), and two wonderful grandsons and a beautiful little granddaughter.

"Come unto Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your soul, for My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
